I make deceptively playful sculpture and compositions using narrative-soaked materials. Through evolving experimentation, I untangle dark themes relating to my mothering experience and the domestic realm. Leaning on levity to approach the seriousness of maternal mental health, my work emphasizes the absurd lack of support for families in American society (Paid Family Leave, affordable quality childcare, universal health care) and the shortcomings of contemporary [White] Feminism.

At the core of my practice, I manipulate vivid textiles, deconstructed household objects (towels, bed linens, hula hoops, pool noodles, etc.), and clay into otherworldly objects. Dramatically transforming tired and storied materials, I perform a process that mirrors my own metamorphosing identity and values. Specifically, sculpture and “lowbrow” embellishments like puffy paint, Swarovski Crystals and fringe satisfy my gross appetite for THINGS. As I find myself revisiting girlhood through a maternal lens, the aesthetic of my work has degenerated to reflect the hyper saturated and commercial nostalgia of the late 90’s/early 00’s- inflatable couches, The Limited Too, Spice Girls, roll-on body glitter, etc.. I enjoy this tension between attraction and repulsion, both in material and subject.
