Visual Artist Statement

I make soft sculpture, 3-dimensional diorama paintings and installations depicting abstracted nature scenes. Through metaphor and aesthetic reference to Mother Nature, my work untangles mundane and dark themes within maternal mental health.

Via fiber and collage techniques, I manipulate dyed drop cloth, chicken wire, masonry line and other utilitarian construction supplies. I blur gendered domestic roles and the associated materials, calling into question societal value of The Mother.

Influenced by my background in The Performing Arts, I’m interested in creating visual experiences through the magic of transformation and improvisation. Color, movement and play are essential in all that I do.
